About The Author
My name is John Cullington. In 1984, I began my driving instruction career in San Diego, CA. working for a large, well established driving school who trained me to be a licensed driving instructor. The instructor training I received from this driving school was a complete joke but it was a blessing in disguise because it forced me think outside of the “driving school industry” box.
Realizing that my instructor training was woefully inept, I pursued a course of finding out why drivers (especially new drivers) had so many accidents and to find a solution to the problem. After working for six months with antiquated driver training methods, I accidentally stumbled on the beginnings of the solution while training one of my clients. Since that moment, I began a 42 year journey for creating the solution now titled, The Cullington Driving Concepts™ (CDCs).
Driving is the #1 killer of teenagers and has been for decades so how can anyone say the driving school industry is a competent industry? The driving school industry (as a whole) is virtually a complete failure because a majority of the industry still teaches archaic driver training methods. In my opinion, many of these archaic methods actually promote traffic accidents. I know that’s a strong statement to make but as an expert in this field, I can honestly tell you this statement is true. There are people in this industry that truly take their profession seriously but in my experience, it’s not the norm.
I am tired of (on a daily basis) reading the newspaper or watching the evening news and seeing the reports of yet another person being injured or killed in a traffic accident. It seems that society has accepted these traffic accidents as a normal part of everyday life just as they accept that the sun will rise and set on a daily basis. I don’t accept this premise and neither should you.
In 1962, Dr. Edward Tenney wrote an excellent book detailing the root cause of our traffic accident dilemma; The Highway Jungle….The Story of the “Driver Education” Hoax in Our Schools That Is Putting Death at the Wheel…. A “System” That Does NOT Train Our Children to DRIVE SAFELY!
Dr. Tenney saw the problem back in 1962 and that problem is still with us. Today, we have safer roads and cars but we still manage to lose between 40,000 and 45,000 and injure 3.5 million human beings on a yearly basis due to traffic accidents in the U. S. alone. We educate our children about the rules and regulations in order for them to pass their driving tests but we don’t fully “train” them to drive safely. Statistics show that over 90% of traffic accidents are preventable, so why aren’t they being prevented? Because drivers don’t know what they don’t know about preventing accidents.
My purpose for writing the Cullington Driving Concepts™ is to empower parents with truly advanced strategies and methods to help “train” their children to become safe and competent drivers without having to rely on the failed driving school industry.
The best testimonial I can give you is mine. I love my children more than anyone else, that’s why I taught these driving concepts to my own daughters.
